Salem Witch Trials: A Journey into Madness / Thurs, Sept 28th 7:00pm

Two young children’s bizarre behavior will turn a small town against each other, resulting in the deaths of 25 men, women, and children. In this intriguing lecture by Charles Spratley we look at this event in detail, as we talk about the main people, their fate, and the madness that overcame a community in 1692 near the town of Salem, Massachusetts. During this lecture we will talk about the Puritan beliefs that have been attributed to this carnage, and the greed that may have inspired it. We will also discuss the weather of the time, and how a “little Ice Age” and some rye bread may have been a factor in this dark stain of American history
